Ear Infections
During the consultation, if you are noted to have an external ear infection that needs treatment, we will examine your ears to determine the nature and severity of the infection. If appropriate, we may offer to prescribe antibiotics or other medications to treat the infection and reduce inflammation. If you require or wish to proceed with a private prescription for the antibiotics we can then arrange this during the consultation for you, and the additional cost for the private prescription (£20) is then paid at the end of the microsuction session.
Swimmer's Ear
Otitis externa, also known as swimmer’s ear, is an inflammation or infection of the ear canal, which is the tube that extends from the outer ear to the eardrum. It is usually caused by a bacterial or fungal growth in the ear canal and can be painful and uncomfortable (or itchy). Treatment involves cleaning the ear canal with our microsuction and then using eardrops or spray to control the infection and reduce inflammation. Occasionally oral antibiotics are also prescribed. Our clinicians can assess this for you and if needed prescribe these antibiotics for you.
